The Company
- Since January 2001, Carlson Design, Inc. has been providing full service design consultancy to clients seeking beautiful and functional landscaping solutions. From small spaces to full scale residential master plans, CDI offers a complete range of services.
 Based in Holly Springs, NC, Carlson Design, Inc. and owner Julie Carlson Liles offer landscaping design and garden consultation throughout the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill (RTP) areas, the coast of NC/SC, and the Lake Gaston region.
Carlson Design, Inc. works collaboratively with each client to ensure that the landscape design reflects their individual needs and lifestyle patterns. The goal of the final design is to compliment the architecture, enhance the existing surroundings, and bring a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces. The integration of the client’s favorite plants, materials and colors, combined with thoughtful design attributes and a plant palette suited to each specific environment, guarantees a successful design every time!
Carlson Design, Inc. works closely with a cadre of hand-picked landscape contractors for installation of the completed designs.

About Julie

Julie Carlson Liles has fourteen years of experience as a landscape contractor, landscape designer and plant enthusiast. Growing up with a love of both art and the outdoors, Julie brings a natural artistic flair to all of her landscape projects.
Upon receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design in 1993, Julie began work for a landscape firm in the mountains of North Carolina. It was during this time that Julie obtained her license as a North Carolina Registered Landscape Contractor.
In 1998 Julie was accepted into the NC State University’s Master in Landscape Architecture program. While in attendance at NCSU, Julie was involved in public space design and as a child play-space landscape architect. During this time, Julie started providing freelance landscape design for select residential clientele, and it was this work that captured her interest.
Immediately after graduating from the NCSU School of Design in December 2000, Julie officially started her own landscape design business. Since that time, Carlson Design, Inc. has maintained an impressive client base founded solely on referrals. With a flair for master planning, site evaluation and plant specification, Julie’s designs can be found throughout the RTP area, Lake Gaston and on the NC and SC coastal regions.
Another of Julie’s passions is educating her clients, her peers and the general public about landscape design and horticulture. Julie has been a guest speaker for landscape / garden presentations at the J.C. Raulston Arboretum, the Sarah P. Duke Gardens and the North Carolina Botanical Gardens.
